Flat Roof Specifier Checklist to be Launched at RIBA Journal Seminar

We’re really looking forward to our autumn technical seminar this year, on the theme ‘Quality in Flat Roofing – Sharing What We Know’. We’re excited to be hearing about Birmingham New Street Station and Barratt London’s The Courthouse SW1P development, but we’ve also got a special something for attendees. We are launching a brand new ‘Flat Roof Specifier Checklist’ which you will be able to take away and use in your work. Book Here.

The seminar will look at what architects and specifiers need to know about ensuring quality in their flat roofing projects, running the course of the project programme.

What’s on the Agenda?

  • We’ll begin with the problem – why is quality in flat roofing an issue? Ably presented by Steve Clamp, formerly Senior Building Consultant at AECOM who will take us through the key challenges.
  • We will look at client requirements, using Birmingham New Street Station as a model, presented by Stephen Ashton of Atkins and Dave Maginnis of Briggs Amasco. How did the client seek to achieve such a complex remodelling project, and how did the design and contractor teams meet this objective?
  • Later in the session we’ll look at installation, skills and training, assisted by Mike Crook former SPRA chairman and Trading Director at SIG Design and Technology. What is the roofing industry doing to address skills challenges?
  • We’ll also look at the guarantee and quality control issues with the expert insurer Mark Jackson of Building and Land. How is the guarantee landscape changing and what do you need to be aware of?

Sounds good? Book Here.

Flat Roof Specifier Checklist

Quality is a team effort, and the specifier has a key role to play in that team. The specifier must make design and specification decisions based on a range of factors, working with other members of the team but playing his or her key part to produce the required result. To this end we’ve produced a guide to better specifying, in the form of our Flat Roof Specifier Checklist, which will be introduced by Sales Director Ross Finnie who devised it.

Choosing the right flat roof system can be a challenge, but ask the right questions and you’re half way there. Our checklist incorporates the key questions we would ask you as roofing specialists, and Ross will take you through these step by step, covering the fundamentals, design factors and buildability. Asking and answering these questions will set you on the right path to a quality flat roof.

The checklist will be available free of charge for all attendees at the seminar which is on the morning of 23rd November at the Building Centre in Store Street, London.
